The Basics

OhioLINK is a network of university and college libraries throughout the state of Ohio. Robinson Music Library is a member of this network.

Through the OhioLINK catalog, you can search for, request, and borrow materials not available at CIM and CWRU from participating Ohio libraries and have them delivered to the Robinson Music Library, or another OhioLINK library. For instructions about requesting materials from OhioLINK libraries, click on the PCIRC tab above.

OhioLINK provides CIM users access to many databases and ebook collections on a wide variety of subjects. For instructions about how to access these databases on and off campus, click on the DATABASE ACCESS tab above. For a selective list and links to OhioLINK databases available to you, click on the DATABASE LIST tab above.

Who can use OhioLINK

·      CIM Conservatory students

·      All CIM faculty

·      CIM staff

Conservatory alumni, Preparatory and Continuing Education students, Cleveland Orchestra members not on the CIM faculty, and other special borrowers may not request materials from OhioLINK via CIM. However, they can borrow from OhioLINK as Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) borrowers if they are residents of the county. For information about getting a CCPL library card and requesting OhioLINK materials via CCPL, click on the CCPL tab above.

Borrower responsibilities

Selection: Unlike Interlibrary loan, requests for items and choice of pickup location are done by the individual borrower instead of by a library staff member. Check your work before submitting a request. Mistakes will result in inconvenience and longer wait times.

Pick up: You will be notified via email when an item you requested has been received. Generally, OhioLINK items are ready for pick up in 4-5 weekday business days. Please pick-up your requested items promptly—space on the OhioLINK hold shelf is limited. Items not picked up within 10 business days will be returned to the lending library.

Loan periods and renewals:It is the responsibility of the borrower to keep track of due dates and return items promptly or renew them if needed. Renewals can be made within 7 days of the due date. Books and scores can be renewed up to 6 times as long as another user does not request the item. Not all OhioLINK libraries loan media (CIM and CWRU do not), but for the libraries that do, the loan period is 1 week, with up to 3 renewals as long as another user has not requested the item. If your item cannot be renewed, return it and request another copy. To learn how to renew OhioLINK materials, click on the PCIRC tab above.

Students: The loan period for books and scores is 21 days. The loan period for media is 7 days.

Faculty: The loan period for books and scores is 42 days. The loan period for media is 7 days.

Fines: The fines for overdue OhioLINK items are set by an OhioLINK committee, not by CIM. The fine for overdue items is $0.50/day. If an item is returned that is more than 30 days overdue, there will be a $50 billing fee. A patron record is frozen once an item is billed for replacement (after 30 days), making it impossible to renew the overdue item or any other item borrowed from OhioLINK. The OhioLINK staff does not get involved in fine disputes. Please speak to a CIM staff member as soon as possible about a fine problem. We will not be able to waive the fine currently accrued, but as soon as we are aware of a problem we can help prevent the problem from getting worse. If you lose an item borrowed from OhioLINK, you will be responsible for the cost of replacing the item plus the $50 billing fee. You will not be able to borrow from your local library system or from OhioLINK until the problem is resolved.
