Darius Milhaud Competition at the Cleveland Institute of Music

Competition for this $700.00 First Prize, $500.00 Second Prize, and $300 Third Prize, to a soloist or each member of a collaborative effort, is open to all currently enrolled conservatory students at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Chosen repertoire may be for solo or for two to seven instruments with or without voice, or for soloist with instrumental or orchestral accompaniment, such as concerti. Previous winners may compete again with new repertoire.

This year's competitions is April 5, 2014.


Explanations of listing

To aid in your selection of music by Darius Milhaud we have created a list of solo and chamber works of Darius Milhaud owned by the Robinson Music Library.  This list has been further broken down by instrument and divided among several pages. To access pages click on appropriate orange tab above.

Piano includes works for solo piano and 2-piano or 4-hand piano.  Organ works are also listed here.

Strings/Harp includes solo works, solo with piano, and chamber music for just strings. Solo harp and solo guitar are also found under this tab.

Woodwinds includes works for any of the woodwinds as solo or in ensemble.  Woodwind Quintets are in this list.

Brass/Percussion includes works for trumpet, horn, trombone and/or tuba as solo or in an ensemble of only brass. Works for solo percussion are also included under this tab.

Vocal includes both solo voice (with piano) or in chamber music with any other instrument(s). Operas and choral works are also listed.

Mixed Chamber includes works which utilize instruments from different families (such as clarinet, violin and piano) in ensemble together.

Where do you work in the Library?
My desk is in the Technical Services area as far North of the front door as you can go. When not there I am probably in the Orchestra Library.
What are your musical interests/activities?
I play and teach viola da gamba, am active as a soloist and chamber player of 17th-century music and play vielle, medieval harp, hurdy gurdy and a variety of winds in Medieval and Renaissance groups. I also am Music Director at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church working with choirs and instruments.
What are your hobbies?
jewelry making, sailing, historical fiction
